Description

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Knapp made his artistic debut in the National Academy in 1859, he exhibited several years. He also sold one of his landscapes to the Pennsylvania Academy in the 1860's. He primarily did landscapes, and loved doing scenes from the Susquehanna River and Berksire Mountains. His works are in permanent collections at Pennsylvania Academy, Hood Museum, National Academy and private collection throughout out the US. Well listed and highly sought after by collectors. Presented in a nice heavy finished corner gilt wood frame of the period. Artwork is ready to hang.

Description

Portrait of Peter McCartee, a well known vice president of Stanley Tools and the founder of the Hardware Club. Harry Ives Thompson was born in West Haven, CT at the age of 21 he turned his interest to painting and trained under Benjamin Coe. Thompson exhibited at the National Academy of design from 1870 - 1890. He did mostly landscapes and portraits, and taught painting in West Haven. He was commissioned to do the portrait of Speaker of the House "Jonathan Trumbull" from Connecticut in 1888 and it hangs in the Congress now. His works are in Museum's and private collections through out the US. The nicely done portrait is presented in the original Gilt wood and composition period frame and has been lightly restored to highlight this well done portrait.
